The Great Seal Migration: Upgrading Our NFTs
Reclaiming Our Ecosystem, One Asset at a Time
When the original developer abandoned Seal on XRPL, they didn't just leave the $SEAL token behind—they also left our two foundational NFT collections tied to an issuer address that no longer benefits the community. We will refer to these abandoned assets as version 1 or V1 for short.
As part of the Community Takeover (CTO), we are officially migrating the Seal Scrolls and Seal NFTs to a brand new, community-owned version 2 (V2) contract. This migration ensures that our NFTs are permanently secured under the governance of the Seal CTO council.
This ensures that the project can be sustainable moving forward, with royalties going directly to the Community multi-signature wallet, completely cutting ties with the fraudulent developer and securing the future utility of our collections.
Why Are We Migrating?
To build a secure future, we need a clean slate. Migrating to V2 achieves three critical goals:
- Absolute Security: The new V2 NFTs are minted from an issuer address controlled by fully doxed members of the Seal Team 6 Council. The old developer will have zero access to the V2 collections and will not receive any royalties from our work.
- Future Utility: Moving to a secure contract allows us to integrate the Seal Scrolls and Seal NFTs into future dApps, yield generating platforms, and community events without relying on compromised infrastructure.
- True Ownership: This is the final step in proving that Seal on XRPL belongs 100% to the community.
How the CTO Migration Works
We have designed the migration process to be as seamless and secure as possible. Here is what you need to know about upgrading your assets via The NFT Swap Mechanism (Pending Integration):
- Connect: Link your XRPL wallet to our secure migration portal.
- Select: Choose the V1 Seal Scrolls or Seal NFTs in your wallet that you wish to migrate.
- Secure: Approve the transaction. The smart contract will automatically send your V1 NFT to a vaulted address, removing it from circulation forever. In a new transaction, an offer for a V2 NFT with the exact same artwork and traits will be deposited directly into your XRP r-wallet. You must accept the offer to receive your new NFT. You will have to do one NFT at a time as the batch offer amendment on the XRPL is not yet live.
Important Details
- 1:1 Ratio: You will receive one V2 NFT for every one V1 NFT you migrate. The artwork and traits remain completely identical.
- Fees: The only cost to migrate is the standard, fractional XRPL network transaction fee. The CTO is not charging any fees for this upgrade.
- Deadline for Migration: While we encourage everyone to migrate as soon as possible to participate in upcoming community events, the migration portal will remain open for 90 days. The Seal Community Council and Seal Team 6 reserve the right to extend the deadline. While we aim to leave no community member behind, we can’t be responsible for individuals' mismanagement of their assets. Some exceptions may apply.
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens to the old V1 collections?
As the community migrates, the V1 NFT collections supply will constantly deflate; they will ultimately lose any value. We will eventually push to delist the V1 collections from major XRPL marketplaces to prevent confusion for new buyers. The V1 NFTs will no longer carry any utility in our ecosystem, and any wallets holding V1 NFTs will automatically be ineligible to receive any rewards and be denied access to our utilities.
Are my new NFTs secure?
Yes, they are more secure than ever. For one, they aren’t being held by an anonymous person who abandoned the project. Our security model operates on three distinct layers to ensure absolute protection of your assets:
- Governance Security: The V2 issuer is strictly locked behind the Seal Team 6 decentralized governance model. With royalties being deposited weekly into the CTO 3-of-6 multi-signature wallet, it means your assets are more secure than ever before.
- Blockchain Security: The ownership and provenance of your NFTs are immutably recorded on the XRP Ledger. This provides permanent cryptographic proof of ownership that cannot be forged, manipulated, or revoked by any central authority.
- Decentralized Storage: We have bulletproofed the actual artwork and metadata. Instead of relying on centralized web servers that can crash or be taken offline by a single owner, all V2 images are hosted on the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) and securely pinned using Pinata. This means even if the Seal CTO went away (it’s not), the assets tied to your NFTs are distributed, tamper-proof, and designed to live forever on the decentralized web.
